11 Jan 2017 - As of 1 Jan 2017 we've added Roseate Tern and removed Great White Egret from the species requiring descriptions. Also, please not that any records of Lesser Spotted Woodpecker or Montagu's Harrier seen after 1 Jan 2016 also require descriptions. We also have a new county recorder. Neil Lawton has stepped in to take over the ever-growing workload that Dave and Jacquie have been handling over the recent years. Welcome Neil!
9 Jun 2015 - With immediate effect, all records (including of scarce and rare birds) should be sent directly to Dave and Jacquie Bridges at [email protected].
The immediate priority is to deal with records for 2014 so we would be grateful if all directly submitted records for December 2014 and any directly submitted ‘end of year’ records for anytime in 2014 could be resubmitted and sent to Dave and Jacquie by 14th July.
Records for 2015, both to date and from now on, should also be (re)submitted to Dave and Jacquie.
Dave and Jacquie will be acting as County Recorders but their main role will be as data distributors, passing records on to a data inputting team comprising Tim Allwood, Ryan Irvine, Neil Lawton and Mick Saunt. Mick Fiszer will work with this team to facilitate the process.
Direct submission to the Recorders will from now on be the normal route for records to be included in the Bird Report and we will not be extracting records from BirdTrack at this stage.
We hope to publish the 2014 Bird Report before the end of the year.
Thanks very much for all your help and support. If you have any queries on recording matters please feel free to get in touch with Dave and Jacquie direct at the above email address.
6 Apr 2015 - From 1st January 2015 a number of changes have been made to the county description list.
The following have been removed from the county list (and are now considered by BBRC):
Aquatic Warbler
Tawny Pipit
Red-throated Pipit
Rustic Bunting
‘Northern Treecreeper’
‘Iceland Redpoll’
The following have been added to the county list (and are no longer considered by BBRC):
Lesser Scaup
Penduline Tit
Blyth’s Reed Warbler
Citrine Wagtail
The following adjustments have also been made:
‘Siberian Lesser Whitethroat’ (i.e. blythi) will continue to be assessed at county level but any claims of other Asian forms (e.g. halimodendri) will be dealt with by BBRC.
Subalpine Warblers not identified to subspecies and those where Moltoni’s Warbler has not been excluded will be assessed at county level and published as ‘Subalpine Warbler subsp.’ or ‘Subalpine OR Moltoni’s Warbler’. Any Subalpine Warbler identified to subspecies (i.e. iberiae, inornata, cantillans or albistriata) or subspecies pair (i.e. iberiae/inornata = ‘Western’ or cantillans/albistriata = ‘Eastern’) will be dealt with by BBRC.
Arctic Redpolls not identified to subspecies will be assessed at county level. Any Arctic Redpoll identified to subspecies (i.e. hornemanni or exilipes) will be dealt with by BBRC.
For the revised list of species, check out the Description Species page.
31 Oct 2014 - As of 1 Jan 2015 all records of all races of Subalpine Warbler will be dealt with by BBRC, so Subalpine Warbler has been removed from the description list.
27 Oct 2014 - Chris Allen will become the new County Recorder from 1 Jan 2015. Dave and Jacquie Bridges will stay on as rarity co-ordinators, handling both the national and county rarities, although all records will still be submitted to Chris.
